The year Mayford Athletic  will celebrate their 50th Season

In 1968, a gentleman called Alex King was a housemaster at Mythe House, Goose Lane, Mayford, which at the time was owned by Wandsworth Council and used as a hostel for young people aged between ten and sixteen. He had about five boys of fifteen who liked football and wanted to play competitive soccer. Alex found another ten boys from the Mayford area and formed a team which entered the Under 16 group in the West Surrey Boys League. £50.00 was placed in the “kitty” which was used to purchase a team kit, based on the strip used by Blackpool. The tangerine and black colours were chosen, simply because no other local team played in these colours.

The club was known as Mayford Athletic Boys F.C. because there was already a Mayford Mens’ F.C. The games were played on the sports field which was attached to Kinton School.
Mr King was assisted in the running of the club by Roy and Pam Lomax, Pam taking on the role of Treasurer. Pam and Roy are both still active within the football cummunity, playing an active role in both the Surrey FA and Surrey Youth League, where Roy is President and Pam a Life Vice President.
