 Fixture Update

All, please note that as we come to the business end of the season it’s important that teams do some forward planning. The league appreciate that clubs do like to attend Bank Holiday Tournaments and the like and would remind all of you to think a little in advance to avoid disappointment. The 27day rule is considered on the basis for clubs to arrange tours and also to cope with school trips etc.

Please note that we try to fulfil every request but occasionally need to say no in certain circumstances such as to allow a team to compete another competition of some description e.g. Futsal etc. Please also remember that there is no such thing as a free Sunday even though you don’t have anything actually scheduled for you in Prawnsandwich. The weather has been reasonably kind but as you all know that can dramatically change very quickly.

Cup Finals including the U10’s are set for the 19th and 26th April and the 10th May this year. These dates are set in stone and details will be released very shortly. As many divisions come to a conclusion both at top and bottom it proves to be a be a busy season end, please help us buy planning ahead and working with your age group fixture secretary to ensure we fit everything in.

SYL Age Qualification Criteria - Season 2014/15

 Clubs need to be mindful of FA rules regarding age qualification when moving from current format (5v5, 7v7, 9v9) to a new format.    6/Apr/2014

Rule 8(C)

The Rule has been amended in line with FA Rule C4(A) following feedback from County FAs and youth leagues. Players are now permitted to play up an age group, regardless of format. It also provides for children to be able to play football as soon as they reach the age of 6, however it should be noted that children attaining the age of 6 during the playing season (i.e. after 31 August) may not play up an age group until the following season.

Bill Nash Award

Dear all, as many of you know the founder of the league Bill Nash passed away recently, to honour his name the league have commissioned a cup that we have decided will be awarded at the end of each season to a worthy recipient.

 

This year the league would like to make the award to an "Unsung Hero" someone from our clubs who perhaps goes unnoticed but who has over the years dedicated a lot of time and effort into ensuring young people can enjoy participation in football.  They can be someone who completes an admin role or a manager or coach who goes the extra mile, or  someone without whom the club would simply not function. It's my experience that every club has such a person.

 

I would invite you to nominate them  so they can be considered for this award. It's easy to complete just go to and fill out a few simple questions.

 

Entry will close on the 6th June 2014

 

The winner will be presented with the award at this year's AGM on the 9th June 2013.    27/May/2014

SYL 2014/15 Application Form

Next Season's  ( 2014/145 application form is now available Applications must be received by April 30th to guarantee continued member status .

Please note that as an FC Charter Standard League we will only be processing applications from Charter Standard Clubs or those who demonstrate a commitment to achieving it in the foreseeable future. This does not prevent non Charter Standard clubs from applying but it does mean that they will need to highlight their intentions below and contact Frank Thompson ASAP to get an agreed plan in place. The League has the right to refuse membership to a current member Club if it fails to demonstrate commitment to achieving the award. We will help clubs as much as possible with their application but the clubs must have an achievable plan.          2/Apr/2014

Under 21 Division 2014/15

Dear Club Secretary, the League are contemplating running an Under 21 age group, this would be for teams that have played a second year as U18 and who would normally have to leave us, it can also be for u17 or U18 teams to give them the opportunity to stay in football by adding other older players to keep the team playing at this difficult age. We will only run this if we have enough interest so we need clubs who previously expressed a desire to be part of this to fill out the application form attached asap and return it by the 30th April deadline.    6/Apr/2014

 
     
 

SYL U9 Trophy Event 2

We are finally in a position to announce the winners of the U9 Trophy Event 2. This competition was more adversely affected than any other by the weather, a competition that should have taken no more than 6 weeks, ended up being a 12 week slog. Prawnsandwich - New Look

Dear all, Some of you may have seen already, but if not have a little look at www.prawnsandwich.com – updated fresh and moving forward. The Prawn Sandwich team have been working to update the site to align with the many “app” looks now out there in cyber space. The site is now more compatible with the Apple tools – iphone & ipad, over 60% of all access are via these devices so will make browsing a lot easier for many of you and just the same for windows users.

Hopefully the front end is intuitive to people, all they need to do is scroll around, the titles are all the same. For entering results via Managers log in, locate the tile – Managers Area, this is a tile or by clicking the menu on the right and scrolling down. A message from the General Secretary

All, just a short note to wish all the teams the best of luck for the season, it's hard to believe we are starting all over again. I would just like to mention a few things before the matches start (09/09/13)

 
 

FA National People's Hero Award

Pam and Roy made it a clean sweep on Sunday when they were announced as winners of the McDonalds' People's Award receiving the award from Sir Trevor Brooking at an awards ceremony at the Community Shield at Wembley hosted by  Sky Sports News' presenter Hayley McQueen and broadcasting legend Jim Rosenthal.

Pam and Roy were accompanied at the ceremony by Caroline McRoyall (Surrey County FA Development Manager ) and Frank Thompson (SCFA Welfare officer and SYL General Secretary) on their big day

When asked about the future Roy commented "we plan to carry on as long as we are wanted, as long as there is something to do, as long as people want us we will be there, we will be there", view the video via

Pam and Roy wish to pass on their thanks to everyone that took the time to vote for them,  "we are very humbled by the whole experience", Roy added "Being on the Wembley pitch at half time was a dream come true"

Referees  - know the rules ?

In accordance with Rule 13 (B) the home Team/Club must also notify the away Team/Club of the name and registration number of the qualified, registered referee who will be officiating the match when you send the away team the details of the game

In SYL games the HOME team must pay the referee rule 13 (f)
