SYL
National Gold Winners
To All Officers, Club Secretaries,
Managers & Players of the Surrey Youth League.
It fills me with immense pride to let everyone know that today the Surrey
Youth League has been awarded Gold Status and National Winner of the Respect
& Fair Play Awards for Youth Leagues 2012/13.
In a week that started with some very sad news in that one of our founder
members of the Surrey Youth League, way back in 1966, Bill Nash passed away,
I cannot think of a more fitting way to mark Bill’s passing with National
recognition for the achievements of the Surrey Youth League, which started
with just 12 teams all those years ago

Bill Nash
It is with great regret that the SYL
has to announce the death of Bill Nash, Bill was a life Vice President
and a founder member of the League, having had the vision to
create a league to provide football for local boys with a handful of teams
back in 1966, without Bill's enthusiasm the SYL would not have grown to the
size it is today with nearly 700 teams. Bill was an active supporter of the
league for over 50 years and was an ever present feature at Cup Finals, AGMs
and Presentation days. His death is a great loss to Youth football. As a
mark of respect to this sad loss there will be a minutes silence at
this year's Cup Finals.
Our deepest condolences to his wife
Pat, his children and grandchildren 16/Apr/2013 |

Charter Standard & League Courses
League update re Charter Standard (CS) and how this may have an
impact on your clubs participation in the league for next season.
As most of you are aware we are proud to be a Charter Standard
League. We have in fact won awards recognising our work in this respect. When we made the commitment to CS three seasons ago
we were set a target of achieving 100% participation from our member clubs for the 2013 / 2014 season. We are currently
around the 85% mark. So to remain as a CS League we need to improve on our current position and get as close to 100% as
possible.

5 v 5 format for U-7
The league are pleased to announce
that we will be playing a 5 v 5 format for U7's next season.
We believe it's an exciting opportunity to help develop our young players. It is new and like 9 v9 for U11 will have teething
problems. We aim to help you through these and I hope we can all be flexible and understand that it's for the children's
benefit. Any questions re this please
