Under 21 Division 2014/15

Dear Club Secretary, the League are contemplating running an Under 21 age group, this would be for teams that have played a second year as U18 and who would normally have to leave us, it can also be for u17 or U18 teams to give them the opportunity to stay in football by adding other older players to keep the team playing at this difficult age. We will only run this if we have enough interest so we need clubs who previously expressed a desire to be part of this to fill out the application form attached asap and return it by the 30th April deadline.    6/Apr/2014

FA National People's Hero Award

Pam and Roy made it a clean sweep on Sunday when they were announced as winners of the McDonalds' People's Award receiving the award from Sir Trevor Brooking at an awards ceremony at the Community Shield at Wembley hosted by  Sky Sports News' presenter Hayley McQueen and broadcasting legend Jim Rosenthal.

Pam and Roy were accompanied at the ceremony by Caroline McRoyall (Surrey County FA Development Manager ) and Frank Thompson (SCFA Welfare officer and SYL General Secretary) on their big day

When asked about the future Roy commented "we plan to carry on as long as we are wanted, as long as there is something to do, as long as people want us we will be there, we will be there", view the video via

Pam and Roy wish to pass on their thanks to everyone that took the time to vote for them,  "we are very humbled by the whole experience", Roy added "Being on the Wembley pitch at half time was a dream come true"

SYL League Format 2013/14

 FA National People's Hero Award

Dear All, please see the link below, it leads to a page where we would ask you to take the time to vote for Pam & Roy Lomax our president and his wife, they really are totally devoted to the league having served on the committee since 1968, 45 years of service is indeed an achievement, they attend all our events and still work actively for the good of the league. Please if you can go online and vote for them, I know they would be humbled but thrilled to win the award. The winners will be announced at the Community Shield later this year, it would be a great tribute to them and the League if they did win this award. Your help is appreciated, best regards, Frank

SYL County Cup Finalists 2012/13

The Surrey Youth League is pleased to announce that the following SYL teams have reached their respective County Cup Final. Well done to all these teams. 4/June/2013

Bill Nash Award

Dear all, as m any of you know the founder of the league Bill Nash passed away recently, to honour his name the league have commissioned a cup that we have decided will be awarded at the end of each season to a worthy recipient.

This year the league would like to make the award to an "Unsung Hero" someone from our clubs who perhaps goes unnoticed but who has over the years dedicated a lot of time and effort into ensuring young people can enjoy participation in football.  They can be someone who completes an admin role or a manager or coach who goes the extra mile, or  someone without whom the club would simply not function. It's my experience that every club has such a person.

I would invite you to nominate them  so they can be considered for this award. It's easy to complete just go to and fill out a few simple questions. This must be completed by 7th June 2013.

The winner will be presented with the award at this year's AGM on the 10th June 2013.    31/May/2013

SYL National Gold Winners

To All Officers, Club Secretaries, Managers & Players of the Surrey Youth League.

It fills me with immense pride to let everyone know that today the Surrey Youth League has been awarded Gold Status and National Winner of the Respect & Fair Play Awards for Youth Leagues 2012/13.

In a week that started with some very sad news in that one of our founder members of the Surrey Youth League, way back in 1966, Bill Nash passed away, I cannot think of a more fitting way to mark Bill’s passing with National recognition for the achievements of the Surrey Youth League, which started with just 12 teams all those years ago

Bill Nash

It is with great regret that the SYL has to announce the death of Bill Nash, Bill  was a life Vice President and  a founder member of the League, having  had the vision to create a league to provide football for local boys with a handful of teams back in 1966, without Bill's enthusiasm the SYL would not have grown to the size it is today with nearly 700 teams. Bill was an active supporter of the league for over 50 years and was an ever present feature at Cup Finals, AGMs and Presentation days. His death is a great loss to Youth football. As a mark of  respect to this sad loss there will be a minutes silence at this year's Cup Finals.

Our deepest condolences to his wife Pat, his children and grandchildren 16/Apr/2013

Goal Posts Scheme

There is a Football Foundation Goal Post Scheme that will assist clubs with the purchase of goal posts, the scheme is open  until 31st May 2013.

Clubs, Local Authorities and schools (providing they have community use) can all apply.    6 /Apr/2013

Charter Standard & League Courses

League update re Charter Standard (CS) and how this may  have an impact on your clubs participation in the league for next season.

As most of you are aware we are proud to be a Charter Standard League. We have in fact won awards recognising our work in this respect. When we made the commitment to CS  three seasons ago we were set a target of achieving 100% participation from our member clubs for the 2013 / 2014 season.  We are currently around the 85% mark. So to remain as a CS League we need to improve on our current position and get as close to 100% as possible.  07/Jan/2013
