CHAIRMAN’S
REPORT - Kieron Cotter - SCGL AGM - 7th June 2004
May I welcome you all to the Surrey
County Girls League AGM for the end of the 2004 season. This is my second year
as your Chairman and I would like to thank all the Clubs and our Management
Committee for all their continued support.
Your Management Team have been
working tirelessly to establish and promote the league this season and during the
season we were able to co-opt additional members onto the committee. I am
delighted to say that those additional members have agreed to stay on for the
forthcoming season.
In many cases this has been their
first involvement with the management of a league, and I can say with
confidence that there commitment has been outstanding.
As your league grows then so do the
problems, but I can say that as when these problems arise there are many
willing persons who are ready and able to impart there knowledge and skills in
resolving any issues. For all there impute I am eternally grateful.
Your management team for next season
will now consist of 20 members, which highlights the growing commitment of
others towards the promotion of girl’s football.
In addition I would also like to
extend my heart felt thanks to all the assistance afforded to us by those at
Surrey County FA.
I am sure you would want to join me
in thanking all those who gave up there valuable time and assisted in the
running of the league last season, they are true ambassadors and a credit to
youth football and Surrey County.
Although this is only the second
year in which the league has been established but our success continues to
thrive. The league were County Cup champions in all age groups except one,
again a true reflection of the standard of football that this league is
delivering.
These achievements would not be
possible without the time and effort put in by the club officials and their
managers and coaches and you are all to be congratulated. Your success is
measured in the results achieved and they speak for themselves.
When the girl’s league was first
formed in 2002 we attracted 14 clubs, for 2003 it rose to 22 and this year we
have increased that again to 36 clubs. Again this shows how this league is
becoming established and is being recognised as a centre of excellence.
As I announced at last years AGM
this season is sadly Dave Workmans and my last season with this league. In real
terms we have just run out of time. This year sees a steady growth, yet again
in the West Surrey Youth League, where indications for next season are that we
will exceed 400 teams with a playing membership approaching 7000.
But I would like to think that we
have achieved, what we were asked to set out to do. That was to establish a
girls league within Surrey County, more than double the club membership, leave
you with a surplus bank balance and establish an experienced and dedicated
Management Team.
It has been an absolute pleasure to
have been able to work with you all and I know that Dave and myself are
honoured to have been nominated as the first Vice Presidents of the Surrey
County Girls League.
It will always be our intention to
assist you in any way we can and I know that the association formed between the
girls league and the West Surrey Youth League will continue for many years to
come.
