9 v 9 update

The league are pleased to announce that after much consultation and debate we will be running the next seasons u11 age group as 9 v9 football. There will be no 11-a side at this age group. It is planned that next seasons under 11's will move to this pattern in September 2011 and then remain at 9 v9 until the end of the 2012/ 2013 season when they will go to 11 v 11 at U13. Each year we will introduce the new U11 age group to this process.

There will be a detailed document produced shortly and the this years u10 teams will be contacted very shortly to look at their needs in respect of pitches and goals etc.

This is a step we have not taken lightly but after probably two years of hard work and research. It would not have been possible without the hard work of Rob Sheldon, JF Burford  and the  league development team in a joint effort  with Surrey County FA and Caroline McRoyall in particular who has worked tirelessly to support the project.

We have recently had very positive feedback from the teams and clubs in the league and seriously believe that it is not only good for the game but more importantly most beneficial for the players development and enjoyment which of course is and always should remain paramount.

It is clear there will be some problems posed by the introduction, I would ask clubs to work with us and  share in the vision of the league,  lets get together to find ways to make it work. Please be positive  as if we all work together and you as clubs display your usual flexibility and resourcefulness then combined with the commitment of your league committee it will defiantly be a success.

The league will be open to all existing U1o teams and we will also open up the competition to new teams form member and non member clubs.

If anyone wants to discuss the finer points please contact Graham Ekins or myself at any time, kind regards, Frank Thompson [ General Secretary] 2318th feb 2011
