Jon Jones
It is with much sadness I have to report the very sad death of Jon Jones. Jon has been associated with this league for many years as a referee and in the last few seasons a committee member who assisted us with our cup final coordination. To my knowledge Jon had been unwell for at least the last six months or so but it is testament to the character of the man that he refused to let his condition prevent him being involved in the game that he loved so much. Jon was a character. His passion for refereeing was incredible. He was well known in football circles and I am sure he will be missed by all that knew him.- Frank Thompson SYL (July10th )

Prawn Sandwich - match cards
A problem has become very apparent today in terms of No Match Return Cards being available to some matches - these matches are League & Invitation Cup Matches that have previously been postponed and had a postponed match card submitted. This bug has probably been there for some time, but with so many games postponed for 2/3 weeks on the bounce it has been difficult to prove -if any team ha no match card to complete please email Graham.Ekins@wsyl.org.uk

Sportsmanship Status 2009/10
Sportsmanship marks have now been analysed and on the whole there is a marked improvement on last year. Each club will by now have received their final report with the attached letter. Well done to those who received sportsmanship status for the forthcoming season. This is well earned achievement and those who reached it have set a very high standard to be followed next season.I would urge all teams to strive improve on this seasons mark and take the necessary steps to ensure that your club and the league has a sportsmanship record to be proud of.If there are any questions around the marks or the scheme please feel free to contact me.Frank Thompson [General Secretary]"Players Wanted" section
When I first started putting adverts up for players it was to try and help teams that were looking for players and to help boys that wanted to play football, unfortunately the way it has developed is almost an invitation for players to leave their current clubs and join another one, which was not the original intension.
This has worried us for a number of months now, we have taken advice from SCFA regarding this and whether advertisements placed by clubs could be conceived as poaching or inducing players to leave their present clubs
Until we get a definitive statement and ratify this by the league council we will not be loading any more “player advertisements”

CRB Checks for Parents
Some of you may have seen the recent article in the local newspapers which stated that under the new ISA system parents will be banned from driving other peoples children to sporting fixtures unless they have a CRB check. This article is factually misleading and if parents continue with their private/domestic arrangement then an FA CRB check will NOT be required. The only time an FA CRB check will be required will be if a club enters into a formal arrangement with a group of parents who agree a rota for taking the team members to and from matches on a regular basis. If this arrangement is in place at clubs then the parents concerned will need an FA enhanced CRB check and will also need to register with ISA as a volunteer once it becomes law on the 12th Oct 2009. click here for details from SCFA ( 20 Jan 09).
Corner Flags
There is an increasing number of teams not providing corner flags, these are a requirement of the laws of football, please ensure you have Corner posts and avoid a fine ( 09 Jan 09).
ID cards - Fines are currently being sent out for not swapping IDcards
REMEMBER checking cards is not a sign of mistrust...IT IS A RULE.
